George Afriyie: Nyantakyi owes his power to me

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie believes the hard work he put in during his time at the FA is the reason Kwesi Nyantakyi has risen to such monumental heights in the position.

The veteran football administrator was recently dismissed from his role as Vice President of the GFA as well as chairman of the Black Stars management committee with no specific reasons given.

Reports on the ground however revealed a strain in his relationship with FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi over some financial disagreements as well as issues of loyalty gone sour.

Prior to his dismissal, he had announced at his 50th birthday, his will to contest the GFA Presidency in 2019, after the incumbent on three separate occasions insisted that seeking re-election isn’t on the cards.

In the aftermath of his dismissal he has made a bold accusation that in 13 years as President of the GFA, incumbent Kwesi Nyantakyi has only watched a handful of Ghana Premier League matches due to a lack of interest.

He insists that with his dismissal, individuals will now see the FA boss for what he really is.

People like us were the ones moving from one league venue to the other.

It is the reason why he is so strong.

Now he has taken away one of the major pillars.

In 13 years he has not watched 40 league matches but he knows what goes on through us.

He also opened up about how his vote propelled Nyantakyi unto the FIFA Executive council in 2016.

Nyantakyi got elected by one single vote. He made it unto the FIFA Council by just one vote. I voted for him. I defied his orders and voted for him, because I believed in him,” he told Accra based Asempa FM

Afriyie according to reports is putting together a campaign team as he prepares for the FA Presidency battle in 2019.
