Arsenal tie is far from over- Thomas Partey

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is expecting a fiery encounter as his side takes on Arsenal in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

Partey, was one of the stand out performers in the first leg, producing a solid defensive display to help 10-man Atletico hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw, in a pulsating encounter.

The 23 year old, who has been deployed at right back for large parts of the season, is looking to spoil Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s send, off by thwarting the Gunners’ chances of making the Europa League final ahead of the second leg in Madrid.

“The tie is not over but of course not to sound arrogant we know what we have to do to get to the final.

“They have their mission to sign off Wenger very well but we also have to continue to ensure that every season we are among the best in Europe and that is where our fire comes from, he told the Independent.

“Things can change so fast in football so we don’t have to lower our guard we know we have world class players but Arsenal has also world class players so it will all come down to the determined team so we will be ready for them for another battle.”

Partey has been a regular feature in the Atletico setup this season making 44 appearances with 5 goals and an assist.
