Isaac Dogboe is 2017 SWAG Sports Personality

New WBC Super Bantamweight Champion, Isaac Dogboe, was named the 2017 SWAG Sports Personality at an event held in Accra on Friday.

Despite Dogboe’s capture of the world title happening in 2018, 2017 was when he became the number one contender to face Jesse Magdelano for the title. He defeated Cesar Juarez in Accra to put him on the path to bantamweight glory. 

He was also named Professional boxer of the year. 

Thomas Partey of the Black Stars and Atletico Madrid was named the Male Footballer of the year. His exploits for Atletico Madrid and more importantly, the Black Stars were very important and thus, they could not be ignored. 

Former Hearts of Oak midfielder was named the Male Footballer of the Year (on the local scene) after helping Hearts of Oak finish in the Top 4 and being a key part of the Ghana’s 2017 WAFU Zone B tournament team. 

The Black Stars B team was the national team of the year for winning the WAFU Zone B tournament. 

Aduana Stars and Ampem Darkoa were named the Male and Female football club year respectively.

Ghana Rugby Association,Herbert Mensah, was the Association President of the year. 

Special awards were given to Dr. Kojo Benjamin Taylor (Sanford), Alex Asante (GFA), Dr. K D Asante, Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum.

10 George Bankole (Handball) – Dedication & Valour 

11. Ofori Asare (Boxing) – Dedication & Valour 

12. Suzzy Dede Teye (ladystrikers/ black maidens) – Discovery of the year  

13. David Akwei (weightlifter) – Discovery of the year

14. Isaac Nii Amugi (Armwrestler) – Discovery of the year 

15. Ampem Darkoa Ladies – Female team of the year 

16. Dr. Kojo Benjamin Taylor – Special Awards 

17. Alex Asante – Special Awards 

18. Dr KD Asante – Special Awards 

19. Dr Martin Engman – Special Awards 

20. Dr Paa Kwesi Odoum – Special Awards

21. David Abanga – Most promising Star
