No support to groups, media for U-20 Women’s World Cup – Gov’t

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the suspension of support for various supporters groups of the nation’s sports team during international competitions.

The Ministry’s decision was contained in a press released put out on Thursday and it stated that call was made due to the reforms being fashioned out for Ghana football and the recent visa scandal which Ghana’s participation in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The freeze on support also affects media houses.

The announcement comes at a time when the Black Princesses, Ghana’s female Under-20 team is heading to France to participate in the U-20 Women’s World Cup which starts on August 5.

There were indications that some supporters and media houses were seeking support from the Ministry to get them to France to either cover or cheer the team.

The Sports Ministry went on state that it had not contracted any travel and tour company or agency to send fans to France or any other international tournament in which a Ghanaian team is participating.

The statement, which is signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Elvis Adjei Baah, adds that the Ghanaian community in France will be contacted to provide support for the team during the tournament.
