Evans Adotey, Head Coach of Ghana’s Black Maidens has opened up about his disappointment at his team’s exit from the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.
Ghana suffered a gut-wrenching penalty shootout loss at the hands of Mexico in the quarter final stage on Sunday night, despite taking the lead twice in regulation time.
Captain and star forward Mukarama Abdulai and Suzzy Dede Teye got the goals for Ghana in the pulsating 2-2 draw after regulation time, as Justice Tweneboaa and Elizabeth Oppong were the guilty party, missing their spot kicks in the shootout.
The Maidens, who were looking to better their record of the 3rd place finish they set back in 2012 in Azerbaijan, were left wondering what could have been, especially after a stellar group stage performance where they scored 10 goals in just 3 games.
“Very disappointing, because our main target was to cross this barrier,” Head Coach Evans Adotey said.
“Unfortunately we are out and there is really nothing i can say. We have to go back and prepare for the next edition.”
Mexico will go on to face Canada in the semifinals, after the North Americans upset European powerhouse Germany.
