The case involving the Ghana Athletics Association and its former President George Lutterodt has been adjourned to May 21 after the plaintiffs showed up in court today to withdraw their old writ and ask for more time to file a new one.

It’s the 9th time the two parties have appeared in court since Lutterodt first dragged the country’s athletics governing body to the courts in December last year.

Lutterodt accused the GAA of trying to manipulate the electoral process to favor certain candidates in the association’s elective congress scheduled for December 2018. The legal action from Lutterodt meant the elections were put on hold, pending the hearing of his injunction application.

However, the case has yet to be moved after a 9th attempt, with both parties trying and failing at an out of court settlement despite intervention from the National Sports Authority who set up a 3-man committee to oversee such.

At today’s hearing, Lutterodt and his lawyers said they were filing a new writ and withdrawing the old one. In the new writ, the plaintiffs among other things want the court to sanction the setting up of an Interim Management Committee to take over the running of athletics in the country, while a final conclusion is sought.

The current Professor Francis Doodo-led administration’s tenure came to an end after March 2019.
