Thomas Partey’s hugely-impressive performance against Liverpool was one of the main headlines from Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 win over Champions League holders, Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Partey, whose performances already this season have made him a favourite of football fans on social media, saw his standing almost elevated to cult status on Twitter after his display.

He dominated Liverpool’s midfield as few others had done this season and was a major factor in Atletico’s win.

Fans were quick to take to Twitter, to express their admiration of the Ghanaian international, during the match and after full-time.

Although Partey missed out on the Man of The Match award, this showing was worthy of one and sparked discussions of social media of just how good Partey was.

While some people just praised the midfielder’s display, fans of other clubs compared him with their current options, resolving that signing Partey would be an improvement.

Here’s what some people had to say:

Classic performance

Disciplined midfielder. Tailor-made for the epl

— Moorerice (@moorerice_here) February 19, 2020

Underrated. For me he is atletico Madrid’s best player

Absolute monster

Thomas Partey gettin the appreciation he deserves. Nice.

Hard to identify individuals such was the collective merit of the performance, but Partey stood out the most. Commanded the midfield well and remained attentive in those long periods without the ball. Knew when to step up…or sit.

— David Cartlidge (@davidjaca) February 19, 2020

Very impressed by Partey’s awareness, late on there was a Cruyff turn deep in Liverpool’s half to allow them to breathe and see it out, great performance

— Jack Rathborn (@JackRathborn) February 19, 2020

Against physical n well organized sides Jorginho has bn poor or average. Too many sideways passing, succumbs to press n hasn’t shown enough d regista ability he clearly possesses. Partey is an absolute upgrade #CFC

Partey was excellent last night, very good on the ball as well as his work and positioning

— Generational (@AdjustRankings) February 19, 2020

Thomas Partey last night showed he’s levels ahead of every Liverpool midfielder
