About 20 positive COVID-19 tests in North African countries Morocco and Egypt forced the postponement of a number of league matches in both countries.
The highly-anticipated encounter between Moroccan giants WAC Casablanca and FAR Rabat was called off after five persons at the club tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Three of them were first-team players; Ismail El Haddad, Brahim Najmeddine and Badr Gaddarine, leading to the postponement of the fixture.
The results of tests carried out by the club showed that five members of the team and staff tested positive for Covid-19. They are currently stable,” WAC said in a statement.
WAC are currently just two points behind league leaders Raja Casablanca.
It was one of three matches called off as Ittihad Tangier called off their fixture after 23 of its staff tested positive, with Rapide Oued Zem also following suit.
In Egypt, Al Masry had been set to take on Ismaily but did not play after 22 persons in the club tested positive for coronavirus.
Al Ahly, with 53 points, are on course for their 42nd league title as they are currently 15 points clear of Zamalek.
