GFA working to restore integrity of Ghanaian referees – Alex Kotey

The Ghana Football Association is putting in place measures to ensure the training of quality referees, this is according to Referees manager, Alex Kotey.

The GFA has taken full charge of the management of referees in the country which was previously under the purview of the referees association of Ghana.

With the reputation of Ghanaian referees battered by the Anas expose, Kotey says the GFA is working hard to restore the integrity of Ghanaian officials.

“If refereeing is not under the umbrella of the GFA, then you would expect that there will be a document that will regulate and also guide our referees,” Kotey said in an interview with Citi Sports.

“That is the process that we have started now, so after that process is done, then we will look at refereeing in general.

“Of course, quality is very important, it is a whole lot of work that one person cannot do alone, he continued.

“So we have put in place an instructor’s panel, a fitness panel among others.

“All these people will be working together for us to achieve that purpose.”

No Ghanaian was included in FIFA’s pre-selection list for Africa to officiate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

FIFA’s pre-selection list for the continent includes referees from Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Congo and Ethiopia.
