“I’m no longer interested in football” – Kwesi Appiah

Former Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah, says he has lost interest in football and is now focusing his attention on other ventures.

The former Ghana international’s last managerial job was with the Black Stars but his contract was not renewed after it expired in December 2019.

He has been linked with a return to Sudan where he previously managed in 2015.

But in an interview with Wontumi TV, the 60-year-old ex-Kotoko defender said his concentration is on other things.

“Now, I am not interested in football, my concentration is on other things”, he told Wontumi TV.

“Although I don’t know what will happen in the future but I don’t want to know anything about football for now.”

A month back, the former Al Khartoum boss was engaged in a tussle with Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports over his unpaid salaries and bonuses amounting to about 185,000 dollars.

Appiah, who had two stints with the Black Stars; the first between 2012 to 2014 and the latest 2017 to 2019 made known his displeasure at the way the GFA handled his salary issue last month.

“I decided to keep quiet on my salary issues all this while but I think if you are working with someone and you are no more, the best way is to give the person whatever he deserves and there will be peace,” Appiah is quoted as saying by Starr FM.

The Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, in a press briefing assured that his outfit have engaged Appiah and will pay him his salary owned him.

“I can assure you that we will pay him his due for all the good work he had done for our dear nation,” he said.

These may be contributory factors to his fading interest in football but he hasn’t given reasons for statement.
