Chelsea have sacked manager Frank Lampard after a year-and-a-half in charge of the club he earned legend status at as a player.
The termination of his contract comes after a poor run of form, which has seen the Blues slip from the top 4 in the Premier League to 9th place.
Despite speculation that he would be fired after losing to Leicester City last week, his removal was only confirmed on Monday, hours after Chelsea progressed to the 5th Round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win over Luton.
The massive news has shaken Twitter, with “Lampard”, “Lamps”, “Chelsea”, “Roman” and “Abramovich” among various other terms connected with the club trending worldwide.
Many people expected the sacking following the run of poor results and Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich’s penchant to descend on non-performing managers.
Others expressed surprise that Lampard left the club following a win and a good performance, and particularly because of his legendary status at Chelsea.
Herh! This is a shocker, never expected it! Am happy tho, FAREWELL SUPER FRANKIE💪🏻

I’m not a Chelsea fan but if your willing to splash over 200m then at least give the manager the full season to get them working 🤣

Rash decision, sacking an up and coming young manager who is bringing on the many young players of the future in his re building programme. A little patience was needed here, Frank is no mug and I’m sure he would have got it right.

I’m not surprised with Chelsea’s record of sacking managers. Having said that, I don’t think he should have got it in the first place, severely lacking experience for such a job. I think once Tomas Tuchel got sacked Chelsea were keen to get rid of Lampard.

Absolute shambles, Chelsea will never change always do the same with managers. They knew frankie didn’t have the same experience as others but they still took him on, they haven’t given him enough time and they’ve made a big big mistake 🤷🏻♀️.

Chelsea's management wasn't fair to Lampard tbh. He gave his all, both as a Player and Manager. Chelsea's greatest midfielder of All time.

Harsh on Lampard I feel.
After losing Hazard got them into champions league and an FA Cup final.

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich stated that while he had huge respect for Frank Lampard, it was time for a change at the club.
“This was a very difficult decision, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and the utmost respect. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers,” Abramovich said in his statement.
It’s really a tough decision for ROMAN to FRANK!
As a diehard Chelsea fan, they’d have given him time to deliver 🙏🏾— FIC LOVE (@ficloveofficial) January 25, 2021
Tbh this is the hardest decision he has ever made in his life for him to come out and explain his reasons.

Absolutely unprecedented for Abramovich to feel the need to explain a managerial sacking. Just shows what a big decision it was on Lampard and the esteem he is held in by all at the club, despite this decision #cfc

Chelsea fans: Frank Lampard is a club legend, we’ve got to give him time. His signings will gel and Timo Werner will come good soon. Sacking him now would be insanity
