What happened the last time Ghana’s Black Stars faced South Africa? [VIDEO]

South Africa host Ghana’s Black Stars later today in a crucial AFCON qualifier in Johannesburg.

A win for the Stars would take them through to the AFCON while three points for the South Africans would take them within a point of certain qualification.

While both sides have expressed their optimism ahead of today’s encounter, the result might be hard for anyone to call.

With both sides, particularly the Black Stars, having to deal with crucial absences due to injury or COVID-19 restrictions, relatively new-look sides will be on display today.

The South Africans have a slight edge over the Black Stars in terms of their head-to-head record with a 5-4 advantage but the Ghanaians have not lost this encounter since 2010.

In their last meeting back in 2019, the Stars triumphed 2-0 in Cape Coast, with Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus scoring in each half.

A similar performance will be expected today from the Stars if they are to secure qualification for the AFCON before their final game against Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday.

Take a look at the highlights from that game below:
