Razak Abalora blunder hands Morocco 1-0 win over Black Stars

Jawad El Yamiq’s goal was the difference as the Black Stars of Ghana were beaten 1-0 by the Atlas Lions of Morocco at the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat.

The Black Stars were decent in the first half but fell short in the second half when a Razak Abalora error led to Jawad El Yamiq heading home for Morocco.

Morocco dominated possession early and dictated the pace of the game from the first kick of the ball.

A solid performance by Nicholas Opoku kept Ghana in the game as the Amiens center-back collaborated well with Daniel Amartey, clamping the attacking threats of the Moroccans.

However, the 23-year-old was replaced by Alexander Djiku at the beginning of the second half after picking an injury.

The Black Stars of Ghana up the ante in the second half but were hit back after the introduction of Champions League winner, Hakim Ziyech whose perfect cross forced out an error from Abalora which resulted in Morocco’s goal.

Akonnor’s men were dangerous in the latter stages of the game with the introduction of Black Stars captain, Dede Ayew but the attacking prowess could not yield any goal in Rabat.

The team will now return to Cape Coast to continue preparations for another friendly against Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
