‘Disgraceful’ – Outrage from Ghanaians after ridiculous goals in Ashgold-Inter Allies match

Ghanaians are outraged after claims of match-fixing marred the final round of matches in the Ghana Premier League.

The fixture between Ashgold and Inter Allies has come under the spotlight after videos of some questionable goals conceded by Allies hit the internet.

The videos show Allies defender, Hashmin Musah scoring two goals past his own goalkeeper to give Ashgold a 7-0 win on Sunday.

The match-fixing claims have been denied by Ashgold, while the player himself has insisted he did it to ruin a bet allegedly placed for a 5-1 full-time score.

The GFA has begun an investigation and recommended the case to the police for a further criminal probe.

However, Ghanaians have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure.

Football in Ghana is no stranger to controversy, with the country still coming to terms with the massive corruption scandal uncovered in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Number 12 documentary, which grounded the game in the country for close to two years.

After finally completing a league season, many Ghanaians, who had been hopeful of a resurgence in the country’s most popular sport, have been left disappointed with the events of the final day.

The hashtag #FixGPL is at the top of the trends on Twitter with related terms including Ashgold and Inter Allies also trending.

I’ve been asked many times why Betway doesn’t offer any odds on Ghana Premier League matches and I think this is why. Our league has credibility issues that need fixing immediately. #FixGPL

When I started #FixGhanaFootball, I was told it is an agenda against @ghanafaofficial, now we are asked to #FixGPL.

It is endemic. The entire football ecosystem is in the mud.

This is embarrassing and unprofessional

Ashgold and Inter Allies should be demoted to division 3…#FixGPL

Look at the match fixing in our league. We were talking about bringing back the love some few weeks ago, now look at this. #FixGPL

You expose your league to such shameless and criminal activities and want us to patronize the league?
This is so wrong. Anas Must come back. #FixGPL

Obviously a fixed match, they should ban them

— Kkissi (@Kkissitwum) July 19, 2021

what a shame…match fixing paaa nie

— KDB (@dbkofi) July 19, 2021

Is purely a fixed match and Theyy should ban all the teams and demote them to lower tiers. Sponsors won’t pay for such games in football

— Jamiel (@abdulaijamiel) July 19, 2021

Make them ban Ashgold from the League to Div 3. Same for Inter Allies, then Dwarfs should be reinstated.
