An 11-member Local Organising Committee has been inaugurated by the Ghana Swimming Association ahead of the 14th CANA African Junior and Senior Swimming and Open Water Championship.

The one-week event is expected to run from October 11, 2021 to October 17, at the ultra-modern Olympic – standard swimming pool inside the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The competition will include Participating countries from all over Africa.

The 11-member Local Organising Committee includes Frederick Acheampong (Chairman), Tamimu Issah, Saha Kambo-Lamptey (GSA), Mrs Delphina Quaye (GSA), Helena Williams (GSA), Charles Mensah (GSA), Ayishatu Farida Iddriss (GSA), Dinah Darkowaa Boateng (MOYS), Sirina Mohammed (MOYS), Seth Nti (NSA) and Vivian Dougblor (NSA).

President of Ghana Swimming Association, Delphina Quaye is confident, with the needed support, the committee will be able to organise and successfully host the competition.

“I believe the committee members have the capability to organise a successful competition to make Ghana Swimming Association and Ghana proud.”

The Director for the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi who was present at the inauguration says the Sports Ministry and the NSA will fully support the Ghana Swimming Association to ensure a successful hosting of the 14th CANA Championship.

“The state provides a lot of support in terms of logistics, in terms of facilities, among others.”

“There are also other budgetary allocations that are also usually made available to them.”

He also called on Companies and Non-Governmental Organisations to partner the Ghana Swimming Association to host a successful competition.

About 30 swimmers from Ghana are expected to participate in the event.
