The maiden edition of the Rainbow Nations Tennis Tournament has come to an end at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club.

The three-day event, organized by the Ghana-South Africa Business Chamber (GSABC), under the patronage of the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Madam Grace Mason, was to bring the international together community and foster a spirit of networking and cooperation.

The open tournament saw 23 players represent 56 countries worldwide to compete for the grand prize.

Trophies and medals were awarded to the various category winners.

Speaking to the media, the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Madam Grace Mason stated her elation for a successful tournament.

“I am overwhelmed and very excited that we have done this. I would like to thank the government and Ghana and all stakeholders and everyone involved. I have been particularly touched by the show of sportsmanship exhibited by the girls who came to play during the tournament, and I am very happy for them. We will regroup and see if we can take this project to the other regions, and we will also engage the players to see how we can make this event even better the next time,” she said.

Mr. Grant Werbber, the President of the Chamber said the tournament would help raise money to develop a collective program under the umbrella of the Rainbow Nations players to invest in the education of girls in particular, by giving out educational scholarships.

Also, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapa lauded the initiative and said it will help countries bounce back strongly from the dire impact of COVID-19.
