GFA will be vindicated in Ashantigold lawsuit – Mark Addo

MARK ADDO

Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mark Addo, says he is confident the association will be vindicated in its ongoing court case with Ashantigold Football Club.

Aggrieved Ashantigold FC, is seeking redress against the GFA for what they describe as an unfair hearing following their demotion to Division Two for match-fixing.

The Obuasi-based club had earlier failed to overturn the sanctions following the GFA Appeals Committee verdict.

The ongoing case has led to the suspension of the 2022/2023 Betpawa Premier League.

The injunction will be heard at the Accra High Court’s Human Rights Division on Friday, October 14, 2022.

“If they [Ashantigold] feel they went to the Appeals process and were still found guilty on the basis of that, the next level was for them to have gone to CAS.

Even the players that were banned went to CAS and were given a reprieve.”

“If they choose not to go through the process, and go to court, which is fine.  Every dog will have his day in court. The FA will strongly present their case and I am very hopeful that we will be vindicated”. Mark Addo said.

The Ghana Premier League will resume if the interlocutory injunction suit is dismissed, whiles the substantive case is addressed.

Meanwhile, Communications Director of Berekum Chelsea, Exonam Opoku has pleaded for the Accra High Court to allow the resumption of 2022/2023 Betpawa Premier League whiles the substantive case between the Ghana Football Association and Ashantigold is addressed.

Exoham Opoku told Citi Sports: “We all praying that even if it will drag, they should let us play whiles court is being processed.

We all have at the back of our minds that court issues are not one day. Some can take years.

We just hoping that they allow us play. We are being hopeful that things will be sorted out.”

Berekum Chelsea lead the three matchday old Betpawa Premier League whiles King Faisal are bottom.
