‘I would love to tell you, but I couldn’t say’ – Hudson-Odoi on possible switch to Black Stars

English winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi’s international football future still hangs in the balance as uncertainty continues to dominate his potential switch from England to Ghana.

Hudson-Odoi has featured three times for England at the senior level but is still eligible to switch nationalities to play for Ghana’s Black Stars.

The 21-year-old’s parents are Ghanaians and Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials have made contact with him, reportedly over a potential switch.

Speaking in an extensive interview with British media outlet BBC, the Bayer Leverkusen player, who is on loan from Chelsea, indicated that the success of young English players like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham in the Bundesliga was a motivating factor for his move to Germany.

On the Black Stars, Hudson-Odoi treaded cautiously when asked about the outcome of ongoing talks to switch to Ghana’s Black Stars stating:

“Nothing I would say at the moment on camera, I would love to tell you, but I couldn’t say. At the moment it’s more just focusing on the best I can do here. You never know what will happen in the future.

Obviously the Ghana-England situation has been on my mind for a while…Right now my mind is just open.”

Ghana has qualified to compete at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and is in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
