Netherlands head coach, Louis Van Gaal has named 39 players to a provisional list to represent the Dutch national team at this year’s World Cup.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar commences on November 20 and the Dutch are making a return to the Mundial after missing out on the previous edition held in Russia in 2018.

The list, which will be pruned to 26 before next month’s tournament, has four players of Ghanaian descent in it.

Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay, Brian Brobbey and Jeremie Frimpong were named it the list officially released earlier today.

With the exception of right full back/ right wing back Frimpong and Depay, the remaining members of the “Ghanaian contingent” ply their trade for clubs in the Netherlands.

Soon-to-be 22-year-old Frimpong plays for German side Bayer Leverkusen and has scored four goals in 10 league appearances this season.

Striker, Gakpo, who is also of Togolese descent, has scored nine goals and registered seven assists in 10 league games for PSV Eindhoven.

The quartet could have lined up for the Black Stars in Qatar, where Ghana is set to play Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H.

The Netherlands are in Group A with Qatar, Ecuador and Senegal.
