Ghana striker, Asamoah Gyan, is adamant Ghana’s Black Stars’ bad run of results in penalty shootouts will eventually come to an end.

He said this in an interview with FIFA + as he talked through his painful penalty miss against Uruguay at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Gyan’s penalty miss and Ghana’s eventual loss to Uruguay in the penalty shootout prevented Ghana from becoming the first African nation to play at the semifinal stage of the FIFA World Cup.

Ghana has witnessed a bad run of results from penalty shootouts since 2010 including losing the 2015 AFCON final to Ivory Coast but Gyan is confident that a positive attitude can change Ghana’s outcome in such situations.

“Games got to penalties and then we give up. You see the fans saying we have lost because they know we are not even good at that  and I think it’s a wrong way. You have to always think positively. On these penalty issues, I know one day everything is going to change.”

Ghana has qualified to compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and has been drawn in Group H against Uruguay, Portugal and South Korea.
