Abdul-Aziz Yakubu’s Al-Ahly move falls through over medical concerns

Ghana striker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu’s proposed move from Portuguese side Rio Ave to Egyptian giant Al-Ahly has reportedly fallen through.

The collapsed move is down to a medical issue stemming from two surgeries on Yakubu’s knee that prompted Ahly to opt for a six month loan with an option to buy instead of the straightforward four and a half year deal reportedly agreed initially.

Rio Ave was set to receive 2.5 million Euros from Ahly but Rio asked for 1.5 million Euros for the loan according to Africa Soccer Zone and Egyptian outlet Kingfut forcing Ahly to balk at the asking price.

Ahly has had to deal with health related issues with high profile signing Percy Tau in recent times and was wary of Yakubu’s health.

The Egyptian side targeted Rio Ave forward to address its ailing strike force that has registered three goals in 28 games at the time of writing.

Yakubu has eight goals and three assists in 15 games this season to his name and has formed a solid partnership with fellow Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Boateng.
