Major League Soccer (MLS) San Jose Earthquakes General Manager Chris Leitch has stated his team is “very fortunate” to acquire the services of Ghanaian defender Jonathan Mensah.

Mensah was acquired by the Earthquakes from Columbus Crew in exchange for $200,000 worth of General Allocation Money in 2023 and 2024 this past weekend.

Speaking in a presser after sealing the move for the experienced Ghanaian defender, Leitch was full of praise for the Black Stars player.

“We knew we needed to bring in a player of significant quality and experience to compete at the highest level in MLS. We feel very fortunate and excited to bring in Jonathan. His leadership and success in Major League Soccer will be invaluable to our squad as we approach the 2023 regular season” he said.

Mensah was named Columbus Crew Defender of the Year in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and was named in MLS Best XI in 2020. He was an MLS Champion in 2020.
