One Marseille fan in particular has been willing to go to great lengths to push through the departure of Argentine centre-back Leonardo Balerdi. A desperate fan has launched a hunger strike and a sit-in in front of La Commanderie, Marseille’s training center, for Balerdi to leave Les Phocéens.

The defender is having a hard time of late for the Igor Tudor-led side. The former Borussia Dortmund man was at fault on several occasions in Marseille’s 3-0 humbling from PSG at the start of the defence last month. The centre-back also missed the decisive penalty in the shootout during OM’s stunning home exit from the Coupe de France quarter-finals at the hands of Ligue 2 minnows Annecy.
Balerdi was again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons on Sunday against relegation-battlers Strasbourg. He was sent off at the half-hour mark after shoving into Habib Diallo when the RCSA striker was through on goal. Balerdi’s contract with OM runs until 2026.
