Asante Kotoko’s endeavour to retain their league title suffered a setback as they succumbed to a 2-0 loss against Accra Great Olympics on Matchday 28 of the 2022/2023 Betpawa Premier League.

Michael Osei put Oly ahead after heading home a Christopher Nettey cross in the 8th minute.

The Porcupine Warriors’ hopes were further dashed when Emmanuel Akesseh netted from close range six minutes before the break, doubling Olympics’ lead.

Akesseh tapped in from six yards after Kotoko goalkeeper, Asare parried Michael Osei’s initial left-foot shoot.

Despite their efforts in the second half, Kotoko failed to equalize and were reduced to ten men after Richmond Lamptey received his second yellow card.

The defending champions, who have now recorded their eighth defeat in the league this season, are currently 6th, eight points behind league leaders, Aduana Stars.

On the other hand, the victory propelled Great Olympics out of the relegation zone, taking them up to 14th on the league table.
