Black Stars midfielder, Abdul Salis Samed has been nominated for the Marc-Vivien Foe Award after excelling in the French Ligue 1.

The award is given out to the best African player competing in France’s top flight in the season under review.

23-year-old Samed is among 11 players nominated for the top award christened after former Cameroon international Foe who starred in the French league for Olympique Lyon and RC Lens for seven seasons.

The former Clermont player is in line to become the first Ghanaian to win the award after Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew in 2015.

Samed, who plays for Lens, has played a key role in the team’s brilliant 2022-2023 campaign that has Lens on the brink of securing UEFA Champions League qualification as it ranks third in the league standings.

The defensive midfielder played for Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and has a goal and an assist in 29 league outings.

He was sent off after making a dangerous tackle on Morocco international and fellow nominee Achraf Hakimi in Lens’ 3-1 loss to league leader, Paris Saint-Germain.
