The Tesano Squash Club on Friday held the closing ceremony of the fourth round of the All-Comers League at the Dimpson Memorial Challenge Cup.

The squash tournament, dubbed “An Evening of Unsung Heroes,” was participated in by rising semi-professional squash players and club players in memory of Ghanaian squash player, Nii Dodoo Dimpson.

The tournament which started in January 2023 had 20 contestants battling for supremacy with Evans Edem Ayih coming top of the pile for his great showmanship.

At the end of the competition, prizes were given out to the winners while all participants also received a certificate.

Evans Edem Ayih received a coveted trophy and a cash prize of 2,000 Ghana cedis while Richard Abagna, who came second also got a trophy and 1,500 Ghana cedis as his prize.

Clement Anafo received 1,000 Ghana cedis for placing third.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nee Adjiri Bannor, a Board member of the Dimpson Memorial Challenge Cup says the tournament was to honour a man who has contributed immensely to squash as a sport in Ghana.

“Nii Duodo Dimpson, after whom this squash tournament was named was a very talented individual who by himself learnt to play squash at a very high level. He spent many years training other youngsters, and it is just right that we honour his memory.

This tournament is also to remember his character, one of fortitude, and a great sportsman who had young people at heart.”

According to Mr. Adjiri Bannor, this competition is here to stay and to help push the game of squash into the limelight.
