Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) Vice President, Alex Kukula, who doubles as Accra Basketball League (ABL) Director, is certain the league will work closely with Braves of Customs upcoming Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualification competition.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports on the sidelines of Week 8 games in the Men’s Division II at the Prisons Court in Cantonments.

The 2024 BAL qualifiers are due to be held later this year and Braves of Customs will represent Ghana in the continental competition after winning the 2022 ABL Men’s Division I title.

This year’s BAL playoff stage is due to run from May 21 to May 27 at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. Four teams from the Sahara Conference have booked their place in the playoffs with six teams in the Nile Conference battling for playoff spots at the time of writing in Cairo, Egypt.

“This is a club competition so mostly it’s the club that facilitates its movement. But I think even the Association (GBBA) can also help because they are going to represent our nation. So I think this time with close collaboration with the team that is going, some of the teething problems that Reformers of Prisons faced could easily have been solved if we had closer collaboration with them so I think this time we will look closely at it.”

ABL Director Alex Kukula

Reformers of Prisons won the 2021 ABL title and was primed to represent Ghana in the 2022 BAL qualifiers but failed to travel to Cameroon to compete in the qualification games due to logistical challenges.
