AFCON 2023Q: Our strategy is to win against CAR – Chris Hughton

After a drab goaless draw against Madagascar in Antananarivo, Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton says the ultimate aim of the team is to win the final game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Though the Black Stars are top of Group E with nine points, the performance against Madagascar on Sunday afternoon means Ghana must win at home to secure qualification.

Addressing the media after the game, Hughton stated that he is aware of the stakes involved as the final game of the qualifiers approaches.

Our strategy for the next match is to win. We are playing at home. We know we have to get the result, and obviously, it’s a game we know the consequences if we don’t win.

He further stated that the players will be going back to their various clubs for preseason and then prepare themselves for the game against the Central African Republic on September 4, 2023, in Kumasi.

From here, we have a break. The players will have to go back to their clubs and they will start preseason and we will be ready for the game in September. We have some players missing today so hopefully, those players will be available in September. We will be going into another difficult game against the Central African Republic and we have to win.
