Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has commented on mass exodus of players and “difficult” playing surfaces in his assessment of the BetPawa Ghana Premier League.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion coach laid out his observations at a press conference following the Black Stars second training session held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana’s national men’s football team, the Black Stars, is preparing for a crucial 2023 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18.

A win against the southern African nation guarantees Ghana a place at the next AFCON set to be held in Cote D’Ivoire.

Touching on multiple football related issues, Hughton focused on key matters affecting Ghana’s top club division competition.

“The league loses a lot of players. What I have seen is that a lot of clubs are bringing in younger players which is good for development and there is no doubt there is talent here but it’s about the next stages for them and playing on the best stages.

A lot of the games I have seen, I have enjoyed. Some of the surfaces have been difficult surfaces and I have seen teams that have tried to play and try to play good attractive football on these surfaces”.
