The Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated co-hosts Australia 3-2 to keep their hopes of progressing to the round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup alive.

Emily Van Egmond gave Australia the lead in added time of the first half, before Uchenna Kanu equalized for Nigeria just before the half-time whistle went.

The Nigerians then took the lead for the first time in the game via Osinachi Ohale before substitute Asisat Oshoala, scored the third to give the Super Falcons a 2-goal cushion.

Alanna Kennedy then scored Australia’s second in added time of the 2nd half but it came a little too late, as Nigeria held on for the victory.

The win sees Nigeria move to the top of Group B with 4 points from two games and must now win their final game against Ireland to book their place in the round of 16.
