Black Meteors head coach Ibrahim Tanko has apologized for his team’s woeful performance at the ongoing 2023 Under 23 AFCON in Morocco.
The poor showing by Ghana’s National Under 23 Men’s Football Team has resulted in a first round exit from the tournament after Ghana draw 1-1 with Guinea in the final round of games at the preliminary stage.
Ghana striker Emmanuel Yeboah put Ghana up in the 31st minute but an Ibrahima Fofana strike tied things up. The Meteors needed a win to progress to the semifinal stage but the draw meant Guinea progressed due to its better goal difference.
In the post-game interview with CAF, coach Tanko was very apologetic to Ghanaians for the quick exit from a tournament that had Ghana beat Congo 3-2 but suffer a humiliating 1-5 loss to Morocco.
“It’s a big disappointment to be out of the tournament. We started well but conceded the goal due to a lack of concentration. We apologize to everyone back in Ghana. We are also disappointed in ourselves.”
Ghana has missed out on competing at the Olympic Games since the 2004 edition held in Greece. Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan slammed some team members for their “selfish” play in the loss to Guinea. (Click highlighted text to read story)
