Black Meteors forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh endured a frustrating outing with Ghana’s National Under 23 Men’s Football Team on an individual and team level and is seemingly working to put this behind him.
In the aftermath of Ghana’s poor campaign at this year’s Under 23 AFCON in Morocco, the former Accra Hearts of Oak player scored two goals in FC Zurich’s 5-1 win over FC Schaffhausen in a friendly game earlier today.
Barnieh, who turned 22 on June 26, scored his first goal after smashing the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal after making a quick turn to create space for the shot.
He scored his second by rounding up the goalkeeper and slotting the ball into the net; both goals showed a high level of confidence many fans have been yearning to see from Barnieh lately.
Ghana exited at the group stage in Morocco after suffering 1-5 loss to the host nation, beating Congo 3-2 and drawing 1-1 with Guinea.
The early exit means Ghana has failed to qualify to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris; the lat time Ghana made it to the Olympics was in 2004.
Barnieh played in all three games but failed to register an assist or goal.
