Board Chairman of Medeama SC, Dr. Tony Aubynn, is confident that the team will progress from the first qualifying round of the CAF Champions League by defeating Nigeria’s Remo Stars.
Having gained a 1-0 lead in the first-leg match held at Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, August 20, the champions of the Ghana Premier League are ready to advance past Nigeria’s 2022-23 Professional Football League runners-up.
The second leg of the match will occur at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State on Sunday, August 27.
“When it comes to Ghana and Nigeria football, and football in general, it doesn’t always follow strict logic. We might have scored more goals, but they could have also defeated us here at our home ground,” Aubynn told to Citi Sports.
“We’re not discouraged at all. The technical team is currently assessing the areas where we fell short and planning to address those. We’re hopeful and, as our Muslim friends would say, inshallah, we anticipate good results in Nigeria, and we’ll make progress.”
The winner between Medeama and Remo Stars will go on to face Guinea’s Horoya in the second qualifying round, competing for a spot in the Group stage.
