GFA Awards 2023: Medeama, Ampem Darkoa scoop several awards as Julian Nunoo wins top prize

Reigning BetPawa Ghana Premier League Champions Medeama SC and reigning Malta Guinness Ghana Women’s Premier League Champions Ampem Darkoa FC, have dominated the list of award winners at this year’s Ghana Football Association (GFA) Awards.

The event was held at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) Auditorium and was graced by GFA President Kurt Okraku, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Evans Bobie, members of the Black Stars including head coach Chris Hughton, GFA Techniccal Director Bernhard Lippert and several football top personalities.

Medeama’s Augustine Evans Adotey won the Coach of the Year Award while Vincent Atinga won the Premier League Best Player of the season Award.

The Tarkwa based side was named as the Club of the Season with Kumasi Asante Kotoko winning two awards on the night-Best Branded Club of the Season and Most Vibrant Club of the Season.

FC Samartex 1996 won the Best Supporters Award while Dreams FC’s Karim Zito, Solomon Agbasi and Abdul Aziz Issah won the Best Coach, Best Goalkeeper and Discovery of the Year Awards respectively in the MTN FA Cup categories.

In the Women’s Division, Ampem Darkoa’s qualification to the main tournament of the CAF Women’s Champions League and a double winning season had the team scoop the Top Scorer, Club of the Season, Best Player of the Season and Best Coach of the Season Awards respectively.

Ampem Darkoa’s Mary Amponsah won two of the aforementioned awards while head coach Nana Joe Adarkwa was recognized as the best trainer.

Julian Nunoo and Rita Nkansah were named Best Male and Female Referee of the Season respectively with Nunoo walking away with a Hyundai Elantra vehicle for his win.

In his speech, GFA President Kurt Okraku called on all football stakeholders to unite and work hard towards bringing back football fans to venues to watch games and tagged it as a “collective responsibility”.
