Dr. Tony Aubynn, Board Chairman of Medeama Sporting Club, has labeled the Tarkwa based side as the “leading football club” in Ghana.
His comment, delivered in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, comes on the back of Medeama’s qualification to the CAF Champions League group stage in its debut campaign in Africa’s premier club competition.
The reigning Betpawa Premier League champions beat Nigeria’s Remo Stars and Guinea’s Horoya AC to make it to the group stage.
Medeama has been drawn in Group D with Al Ahly (Egypt), CR Belouizdad (Algeria) and Young Africans (Tanzania). Ahly is the reigning champion and record holder having won the title 11 times.
Despite losing out on retaining his seat on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council (EXCO), Dr. Aubynn expressed his excitement about his role in Ghana’s leading football club.
“Failure isn’t the end, it’s a stepping stone for something else and I am excited and happy to say that I am still the Chairman of Medeama Sporting Club which is the leading football club in Ghana for now.”
Medeama beat Bechem United 2-1 for its first win of the 2023-2024 league season.
