Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has credited Thomas Partey and fellow Arsenal substitutes for their immense impact in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the pick of this past week’s round of English Premier League games.
All four Arsenal substitutes of Partey, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli combined to get the Gunners the important win with Martinelli’s strike bouncing off Nathan Ake’s face into the net.
Partey’s long pass was headed by Tomiyasu to Havertz who then laid a pass into the path of Martinelli. His deflected shot ended up displacing Man City keeper Ederson to secure the vital win.
Speaking in a post game interview to Arsenal’s official channel, Arteta praised the impact of his substitutes including Partey who made his return after missing several games due to injury.
“To be fair, the subs were excellent again. They were involved in the goal, but they brought so much physicality, energy and quality to the team.”
Partey played 18 minutes against Man City while completing 17 of 18 passes while having 18 touches.
