Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton is hopeful Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey returns to full fitness and gets back in good form in time for the Black Stars 2023 AFCON campaign.
He said this in an interview with the BBC in the lead up to two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the Black Stars against Madagascar on November 17 and Comoros on November 21.
Partey has been ruled out of both contests after picking up a muscle injury ahead of Arsenal’s Match Day 3 fixture against Sevilla in Spain in the UEFA Champions League.
His recovery time seemingly worsened after suffering a setback in his recovery prompting the former Atletico Madrid player to see a specialist to deal with a thigh problem.
“We are all very much aware the quality of player that he is. Unfortunately for us he is injured at this period of time.”
“We are very very hopeful that he will be fit and back playing and in good form by the time that we get to AFCON but at this very moment we don’t know.”
The setback puts Partey’s participation in the 2023 AFCON in serious doubt and that isn’t lost on Hughton who is hoping Partey returns in time for the competition. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
