West Ham United manager David Moyes has expressed his disappointment over the expected exit of African players from his squad to go compete in the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
David Moyes is set to lose Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus, Said Benrahma of Algeria and Nayef Aguerd of Morocco to the upcoming championship for at least three weeks due to the trio’s expected call ups to their respective national teams.
All three players have played well for The Hammers this season especially Kudus and the absence has to be managed according to the veteran coach who has experienced similar exits after working with Nigeria’s Joseph Yobo and Yakubu Ayigbeni at Everton. (Click highlighted text to read full text)
“We’ve got Mo Kudus, and we’ve also got Saïd Benrahma from Algeria and Nayef Aguerd from Morocco.”
“The disappointing bit, and the thing we’ll need to manage, is losing those players for a month during the African Cup of Nations. But that’s part of it” Moyes said in a pre-game press conference.
West Ham takes on Tottenham Hotspurs at the Tottenham Stadium in a London derby on Thursday, December 7 at 20:15 GMT.
