GHANA PL: Fatawu Mohammed cautions Hearts over hiring expatriate coaches

Former Accra Hearts of Oak captain, Fatawu Mohammed, is urging the club to consider a local coach to lead them after the dismissal of Dutch Coach Martinus Koopman some weeks ago due to poor league results.

The team is currently under the interim leadership of Abdul Rahim Bashiru but is still struggling with results.

Fatawu Mohammed emphasized the importance of appointing a title-winning local coach for long-term success and cautioned against relying on foreign coaches.

He shared these sentiments in an interview with Citi Sports.

Everyone saw what former Coach Samuel Boadu did in one-half year, but in our country, we believe in white coaches more than black coaches.

I understand that is where we go to learn our coach courses and other things, but when you bring a white man here, he doesn’t know the culture of these clubs, stuggles to understand the supporters, the management and other things.

A black coach is able to understand what is required of him when handling the local teams, that is what Boadu did during his time as Head Coach, he understood the club [Accra Hearts of Oak].

Thank you for standing with us through the highs and lows. Today may not have gone our way, but your unwavering support fuels our determination. We’ll rise again. Thank you for being the heartbeat of our team. πŸ™βš½ #AHOSC #PositiveEnergy #Starlife pic.twitter.com/f6wsdKsJLq

Take a look at Kotoko, Ogum won the league and left, they brought in an expatriate, they struggled and now they’ve brought him back.

So i think if the club owners will focus more on the local coaches, it will help.

The country has got good coaches, than the expatriates we are bring in.

If Hearts of Oak can do that, they should give the job to a local coach for the long term.

The 2020/21 Champions, Hearts of Oak, are yet to appoint a permanent coach after Martinus Koopman’s dismissal.

Abdul Rahim Bashiru’s interim leadership has seen the Phobians exit the MTN FA CUP in the round of 64 and lose 2-3 to bitter rival Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

In the last 5 league fixtures, Hearts have secured only one win and conceded 11 goals each.

The Phobians face Nations FC at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on December 16, 2023.
