Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez is happy to see Ghana star Mohammed Kudus continue his fine start to life at West Ham through his goals.
Alvarez said this in a post game interview after starring in West Ham’s 2-0 win over German side Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League.
The former Ajax player assisted Kudus’ goal in the 14th minute and went on to score the game’s second goal off an assist from Jarrod Bowen in the 42nd minute.
The goal is Alvarez’s first for The Hammers since joining the club alongside Kudus this past off-season.
The ex-Ajax boys connected for the game’s first goal with the Mexican spotting the run of Kudus to get behind the Freiburg backline and laying on a perfect pass for Kudus to place into the net.
Speaking in the interview, Alvarez shared his joy seeing Kudus score his seventh goal of the season.
“It was a very special magic night for me. I know Mo (Mohammed Kudus) so when he run, I saw him directly. I am happy for him as well, am also happy to score my first goal with this beautiful shirt.”
Ivorian international, Maxwell Cornet, replaced Kudus in the 88th minute and the win sealed top place in Group A for West Ham.
It also marked the third season in a row that West Ham has progressed from in the UEFA Europa League or UEFA Conference League preliminary stage as group winners under David Moyes.
Kudus is likely to be named in the Ghana Black Stars 2023 AFCON squad later this week.
