The provisional squad for the Black Stars squad for the 2023 AFCON has been released with Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton naming 55 players in the squad.
The squad has 11 players drafted from the Ghana Premier League with Kotoko’s much talked about midfielder Richmond Lamptey named in the team provisionally. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
However, three players whose availability for the competition has been questioned due to extensive injuries picked up this season, have been named to the squad.
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey and Southampton winger Kamal-Deen Sulemana made the provisional list.
However, all three players have missed significant time to injury with Thomas Partey recently pictured in a workout in the early phase of his recovery procedure. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Sulemana and Lamptey’s injuries are expected to be out for a while according to the coaches of their respective teams. Lamptey hasn’t played for the Black Stars since featuring with Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The England based trio is joined by fellow England based players including West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus and Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew.
Ghana failed to qualify from the group stage at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
