A former assistant coach of the Black Stars, Herve Renard, has described Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew’s move to Le Havre as an “intelligent one”.

He said this in his interview for French Ligue 1’s documentary on African players in the league titled, “Follow your lucky star: Africa and Ligue 1 Uber Eats, the common goal”.

Renard assisted then Black Stars head coach Claude Le Roy during the latter’s time leading the four time African champions run at the 2008 AFCON. Dede Ayew made his AFCON debut in the 2008 edition.

He moved to lead Zambia and Ivory Coast to win the AFCON in 2012 and 2015 respectively as head coach before switching to women’s football where he serves as head coach of the French National Women’s Team.

Ayew was without a club after his short run with Nottingham Forest ended before signing for Le Havre in a move that marked his return to the French Ligue 1 after leaving Olympique Marseille for Swansea City in the EPL.

“He has just relaunched himself by coming to the French Ligue 1 for Le Havre. I think it’s a good choice. It’s an intelligent choice.”
