Citi Sports understands that members of Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, have been paid bonuses owed them.

The payment was made this afternoon in the lead up to the Queens’ 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Zambia at the Accra Sports Stadium at 17:00 GMT.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Chairman of the Women’s Super Cup Committee, Ebenezer Allotey, assured that the team will receive all bonuses ($7,500 per player) owed them today. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Bonuses owed to the Queens stems from 2024 Women’s AFCON and preliminary 2024 Olympics qualification games.

The Black Queens preparation for the first of two crucial legs have been rocky with the Queens complaining of neglect since showing up to camp with no top GFA official or top Ministry of Youth and Sports official.

However, GFA President Kurt Okraku, Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif and Chairperson of the Black Queens Management Committee, Dr. Gifty Oware-Mensah visited the team on Wednesday, February 21.

Zambia head into the tie as favourites after competing at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where the Barbara Banda led team scored a 3-1 win over Costa Rica but lost to World Cup quarterfinalist Japan and eventual World Cup winners Spain to crash out of the first round.
