Black Queens head coach, Nora Hauptle, says her team isn’t focusing on the star individuals on the Zambian team but her side is focused on what it can do to win the massive game.
She said this in the lead up to the 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Zambia at the Accra Sports Stadium at 17:00 GMT.
In a related development, the Black Queens outstanding bonuses have been cleared by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with each playing member of the team earning $7,500. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The matchup is the first of two legs against the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup participants who have the sensational Barbara Banda and Rachael Kundananji leading their attack.
However, Hauptle pointed to her team’s determination to win the game by focusing on themselves during a training session.
“Zambia of course is a big opponent…they have good individual players. We want to face their top individual players of course with a top team. Well I don’t compare myself with others with their stars we are just focused on ourselves.”
“It gives us a certain pride that we won 10 games out of 11 but in football, the only thing that counts is the next game. You cannot live from the past and we want to pass this qualifying round…that’s why we are working properly, keeping the focus on us and co comparison to others.”
This year’s Olympic Games will be held in Paris.
