Kurt Okraku’s GFA is the best I have seen– Mohammed Polo

Mohammed Polo, former Accra Hearts of Oak head coach and 1978 AFCON winner has argued that the present Ghana Football administration, led by Kurt Okraku, is one of the best he has seen.

The former Black Stars player believes that the current leadership of the GFA has done a lot for the local game, especially in the women’s area.

The GFA has made some interventions in women’s football in terms of the Women’s Premier League, the Women’s FA Cup and the female national teams and some observers state that this has led to some achievements such as winning gold in the recently held 13th African Games women’s competition.

In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Polo said that he had seen several football administrations and could attest to the fact that Kurt had done well because football was dead under the Nyantakyi administration.

MOHAMMED POLO HONORED BY GFA PRESIDENT, KURT OKRAKU

“He has done tremendously well, because there were huge expectations which brought a lot of tension on the GFA.

This is one of the best GFA administration I have ever seen.

I have been in the system and seen a number of the Ghana football administration and this is one of the best which have come and improve Ghana football because football was dead.

“Someone will say Nyantakyi’s time , but he had a crop of players who were dedicated and that was the generation who couldn’t win the Afcon .

They were quality but they couldn’t win.

Things were going bad to worse, but this man, when he came, he was trying to put things in place but the result wasn’t coming. Fortunately, he’s got another term and we are seeing the result.”

Mohammed Polo was appointed head coach of Ghana Premier League club Accra Hearts of Oak in 1994, followed by a seven-month stint in 2013. Polo became the technical director of Ghana’s Accra Great Olympics football club in 2004.

He owns Golden Stars Academy, a soccer academy that once trained in Legon but has now been renamed Polo Soccer Academy.
