Director of Communications at the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has emphasized that the appointment of coaches for the various national teams is based on track record.

The Ghana Football Association have recently made new appointments for newly established male and female national teams and already existing ones. Among them is former Ghana international Godwin Attram. Attram’s appointment comes on the eve of the establishment of the U21 national team.

In an exclusive interview with CitiSports, Henry Asante Twum, stated that whenever there’s a a vacuum to employ, the Executive Council go through the CV’s to see what they have achieved.

” We look into what they have contributed to the sports and what they have decided to do after their careers. You realise that some of them veer into other spheres of the industry.”

” There have been exceptions with the likes of Laryea Kingston, John Pantsil, Don Bortey, Sammy Adjei, Sani Mohammed and Otto Addo for instance all taking up coaching. Asamoah Gyan has also finished his license B course so I’m sure he’s in line for these kinds of opportunities in future.”

“whenever there is a vacuum for us to employ the executive council go into the CVs, what they have achieved individually, they look at what they have contributed to the sports secondly and decide on where they can best fit.”

Attram, who will be assisted by Nana Yaw Amankwah comes with rich experience having played for clubs such as Silkeborg IF, PSV Eindhoven and Accra Great Olympics.

The technical team of the U21 squad is tasked to nurture talent and a well-rounded team that can challenge for trophies on the Global stage.

This move is believed to be in line with the Ghana football philosophy launched in 2023, aimed at nurturing young talent and building a culture of excellence from grassroots football.
