GPL: Dreams FC deliver eye popping 8-1 win over RTU; Hearts drop to 15th

Dreams Football Club have all but secured their stay in the Ghana Premier League after recording an 8-1 win over already relegated Real Tamale United (RTU) in an outstanding league fixture.

The result, recorded at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu had highly rated forward Agyenim Boateng Mensah score five goals.

The 2023-2024 CAF Confederation Cup semifinalists’ big win puts them in 11th place with 45 points off 12 wins, 12 losses and nine draws heading into the final round of games this weekend.

Dreams FC’s penultimate game of the league season had the Still Believe side recover from a shock Lord Adabo goal in the fourth minute and complete a remarkable comeback.

Boateng Mensah responded to RTU’s lead in the seventh minute and added two more goals in the 32nd and 36th minute respectively to give Dreams a very healthy half time lead and complete his hat trick.

Benjamin Bature and Ishmael Dede continued the mauling of RTU by getting in on the scoresheet in the 46th and 47th minute respectively before Boateng Mensah rounded out a brilliant outing by scoring two more goals in the 73rd minute and 84th minute. Bature scored in the 11th minute in the first half.

In a related development, Ghana Premier League heavyweight, Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club, have dropped to 15th in the 18 team league standings.

Hearts take on Bechem United in Bechem while Dreams take on Aduana Stars at home on Saturday, June 15 in the last round of games.
