Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, believes players competing in the Ghana Premier League need to work harder to get more call ups to the Black Stars.

He said this in relation to having just one player from the GPL called up to Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic (CAR).

Ghana play Mali in Bamako on June 6 and CAR in at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on June 10 and the 26- man squad named by Black Stars head coach Otto Addo had just Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare called up.

Addressing the issue in an interview with Kotoko media after The Porcupine Warriors 1-0 loss to Accra Great Olympics, Dr. Ogum sated,

“We have quality in the league, individual players are very good but it all depends on the coach who is making the call ups. As coaches we need to work harder and as players they also need to work harder so that moving on more players will be called up to join the Black Stars.”
