Owner and bankroller of Division One club Skyy FC, Wilson Arthur, has called for an intentional effort to include more players from the Ghana Premier League in the Black Stars.
He said this in an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports as a means to promote the retention of top players in the Ghana Premier League.
The Black Stars are coming off back to back wins over Mali and Central African Republic in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Frederick Asare as the sole GPL representative.
Wilson Arthur called for more Ghana Premier League players to be included in the Black Stars in the future stating,
“As long as we continue prioritizing and giving more opportunities to foreign based players, then every GPL player, because he wants to play in the Senior National Team, he wants to go outside so that he can be considered.”

“We need to intentionally take more local players and bring some of these outstanding foreign players to come and augment them. It should be the other way round. When we do that, a lot of the quality players will stay because he knows that if he plays well, he is more likely to get into the national team and that will strengthen our league.”
