Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has stated that the University of Ghana (UG) Stadium was picked as the host venue for this year’s MTN FA Cup due to the venue’s quality facilities.
He said this at a presser in the lead up to the big game on Sunday, June 23 between Bofoakwa Tano and Nsoatreman FC.
The event was headlined by the GFA President, UG Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic and Students Affairs) Professor Gordon Awandare and Acting University of Ghana Director of Sports, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu.
In his speech, the GFA President detailed the reason behind the selection of the edifice that was renovated to host the 2023 African Games as the venue for Sunday’s big game.
“In our dear country, your institution boasts of the best football facility. This amazing beautiful trophy deserves to be associated with the very best when it comes to football infrastructure.”

“Within this vicinity (Legon enclave), we not only have a hundreds, thousands maybe millions of youth…so therefore we thought that if there is any venue that can have the best of attention, the best of patronage to create the amazing football ambiance and atmosphere that we want, it should be the University of Ghana.”

Bofoakwa Tano have been relegated from the Ghana Premier League after finishing 17th in the 2023-2024 season heading into this weekend’s game.
